Responding to the fatal crash, Anand Mahindra wrote a deeply moving message on X, calling the loss “unimaginable” and urging the nation to stand firm in its pursuit of indigenous aerospace capability.

He wrote that the tragic loss of the pilot is above everything else, and extended his condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Wing Commander Syal. Mahindra acknowledged that the crash is a setback for the Tejas programme but reminded the world that India remains one of the few nations capable of developing an indigenous fighter aircraft.



“Setbacks do not define us. Our response does,” he wrote, adding that India’s journey towards self-reliance in aerospace is “too important, too hard-earned, and too full of potential to be shaken.”

His words have been widely shared, reflecting the collective grief and pride of the nation.

Who Was Wing Commander Namansh Syal?

Wing Commander Namansh Syal, aged 34, was known as a skilled fighter pilot and an exceptional athlete. An alumnus of Sainik School Sujanpur Tira, he was admired for his discipline, dedication, and leadership.

He is survived by his wife, Wing Commander Afshan, who also serves in the Indian Air Force, their six-year-old daughter Aarya, and his parents. The IAF has expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

Locals described him as “the pride of Patialkar”. Many recalled meeting him just months earlier during his visit to the village.

Friends, schoolmates, and villagers offered heartfelt memories of the late officer.

Pankaj Chadha, his schoolmate from Sainik School Sujanpur Tira, told ANI: “We have lost one of our gems. He made all of us very proud.”

Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Patialkar, said: “He was like our younger brother. We met him only 3–4 months ago when he came home. We have no words.”

His uncle, Madan Lal, remembered his brilliance as a young boy: “He always stood first in school. This is a huge loss for the nation.”

What Happened at the Dubai Air Show 2025?

The Indian Air Force confirmed that the LCA Tejas crashed and caught fire during an aerial display at the Dubai Air Show on 21 November 2025. Wing Commander Syal was piloting the aircraft when the incident occurred.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, and the IAF has ordered a detailed inquiry.
