Guru Nanak Dev: The first Guru Nanak Dev of the Sikhs was inclined towards spirituality since childhood. Nanak ji broke the evils and stereotypes prevalent in the society. Let us know the spiritual journey of Nanak Dev ji from this article.
Whenever Satvik qualities have to be developed in a human being on this earth, some perfect man incarnates on this earth to guide the man towards the right path. Among these great men, a perfect man Guru Nanak Dev comes. Guru Nanak Dev was born in Samvat 1526 on the day of Kartiki Purnima in a place called Talwandi, Lahore, now that place is famous by the name of Nankana Saheb. His father’s name was Kaluchand. He was the Karinda of Suba Bular Pathan of Talwandi Nagar of Lahore Tehsil Sharqpur. His mother’s name was Tripta. Guru Nanak Dev was engrossed in devotion to God right from the beginning, his father wanted him to take over the business. Once his father said, son, go to Lahore with Bala and make a real deal. On the way, he saw a monk doing penance. Nanak was worried who would make arrangements for his food and drink? Nanak thought what would be a better deal than this?
Nanak asked for food items from the nearby village and fed those sadhus a full meal and then returned home. Their father was very angry. He said, “Father, while working, I lost my mind.”
To devote oneself to the Guru, to be in the company of good people and to eat together is the true deal.
He used to sit in solitude and meditate silently for hours. He was so engrossed in the hymns and kirtans of God that he did not even remember eating and drinking. Once his father thought that he was suffering from some incurable disease. The physician checked Nanak’s pulse but did not find any disease, Nanak told his father.
‘Vaidya called Vaidagi, took hold and felt her arm.
Bhola Vaidya will not know, it will harm my heart.
That is, the Ayurvedic doctor could not diagnose my disease just by feeling my arm or pulse, because the pain is in my mind.
This Nanak later became famous by the name of Guru Nanak Dev, the first Guru of Sikhs. Mardana Rabani was his main disciple. It is said that once Saint Nanak went to a village and the residents there welcomed him.
He showed great respect while leaving. Nanak ji blessed him ‘Go away’. When he went to another village, the people there despised him and spoke harsh words. Nanak ji blessed ‘Be prosperous’.
The disciples walking along asked, “Lord, why did you give the reverse blessing to those who respect you to be destroyed and to those who despise you to remain inhabited?”
On this, Nanak said – If ‘gentlemanly people’ get destroyed then they will scatter and spread gentility wherever they go, hence it is right for them to be destroyed but the wicked should not create unrest everywhere, hence their only one
It’s good to stay in place.
Once someone asked Guru Nanak Dev which qualities of a person should be respected by considering him as an ideal man, on this Nanak said –
‘Te manas sachu vastu santokhu teerathu giyanu dhiyanu isananu.
Garment Daiya Devta Khima Japa Garland Le Manas Pardhan.
That is, the man whose fast is true, truth is satisfaction, bathing is knowledge and forgiveness.
Yes, such men are worthy of respect.
The prominent name of Dulichand comes among his disciples. It is said that he had twenty one crore rupees. In this arrogance, he had placed twenty one flags on the roof, he used to respect the saints very much.
He went to meet Guru Nanak Ji, Nanak Ji gave him the needle and asked him to return it to me in the next life. Dulichand took it, then when he came home, he thought that no one takes anything after death, he immediately took that needle to Nanak ji to return it. Guru Nanak Dev laughingly said that when you cannot take the needle with you, then how will these twenty one crore rupees go with you? Dulichand’s ego was shattered and at that very moment he donated all his wealth to the poor and became his chief disciple. There was a fakir, his name was Wali Kandhari, he was jealous of Nanak ji. Guru Nanak Dev, after returning from Mecca, was meditating near a hill on the way from Peshawar to Naushahr. The fakir closed the mountain’s source and said to the people – If your theory is strong then bring water and show it.
Guru Nanak ji removed a stone from the bottom of the mountain, the source burst from there, the water above dried up, an angry fakir threw a stone at Nanakdev ji, Guru Sahib raised his paw and stopped it there. The fakir fell at his feet. Asked which mantra’s Siddhi he has, Guru Nanak Dev said, I remember the Lord with a pure heart. This place is near Hasan Andal village, every year during Baisakhi, a Baisakhi fair is held at this place in Rankalpur district of Pakistan. The ruler of Baghdad had harassed the people, he collected more taxes from the people, for this he used to do various kinds of injustice and atrocities on the people, the people were very unhappy with this,
One day Guru Nanak reached Baghdad while roaming around, he collected a small pile of pebbles in front of the royal palace and sat near it. Someone informed the king about Nanak’s arrival.
He himself reached there and as soon as he saw the pile of pebbles, he asked, ‘Maharaj, for whom have you collected these pebbles?’ Guru Nanak quickly replied, Maharaj, he will be saved by God on the day of doomsday.
Will give it as a gift.
The emperor laughed loudly and said – Oh Nanak, I had heard that you are very knowledgeable but you don’t know this much, you can’t even take a pebble, let alone a needle and thread with you on the day of doomsday. Nanak Dev laughingly said, ‘I don’t know sir, but I have come for this purpose. You will take with you the wealth that you are collecting by looting the people.’ So these pebbles will also go with them. The king understood this, he stopped harassing the people and started serving them.
There is a common belief among the common people that ascetics have special clothes. Guru Nanak refuted this and described the real form of saints.
Once Guru Nanak went to Panipat, where a famous Sufi fakir named Shahsharaf lived, at that time Gurunanak was wearing the clothes of a householder. Seeing this, Shahsharaf asked – ‘Why have you, being a sannyasi, worn the clothes of a householder? And why haven’t you kept your head bowed like the sannyasis?
Nanak replied – ‘The mind needs to be bent, not the head, and the mind can be bent only by becoming humble like clay.’ Regarding his attire, he said – ‘The man who falls at the feet of God, giving up his pleasures, tastes and ego, whatever clothes he wears, God accepts it. The robe and cap of the dervish is that he should inculcate divine knowledge in his soul, who can conquer any mind, be equal in happiness and sorrow and be spontaneous at all times.
Any kind of attire is appropriate for someone who roams around in this place. When Shahsharaf asked ‘What is your caste, what is your opinion, how is Gujar?’
Guru Nanak said – ‘My opinion is the path of truth, my caste is the same as that of fire and air, which considers enemy and friend as equal, my tree of life is like the earth. Like a river, I am not worried about whether someone throws dust or flowers on me and I consider alive only the one whose life is spreading its fragrance in the world like sandalwood for others.
Hearing this, Shahsharaf said- ‘Who is Darvesh?’ Nanak said, ‘Those who are alive remain as unmoving as the dead. Keep sleeping while awake, keep debauching yourself deliberately. One who does not get angry, does not become proud, does not feel sad himself nor hurts anyone, who always remains immersed in God and listens to what God speaks from within him and sees the same omnipresent God in every person and everywhere. Once the fakirs tested Nanak Dev-
Guru Nanak Dev once went to Multan and the pir-fakirs there wanted to know who this person really was?
The saints sent a bowl full of milk to him with the message that there is no scope for even a single extra drop in it. Similarly, there are many saints in the city of Multan, there is no scope for them, Nanak put two batashas and a rose petal in the bowl of milk, the meaning of which was that just as batasha sweetens the milk with its sweetness and milk can never spoil in the presence of a flower, on the contrary, the fragrance spreads in the same way. no one gets harmed by
Will reach. On the contrary, satsang and knowledge will only be beneficial. Message received. All the Peers came to know that indeed an Auliya Siddha man has come, everyone came to meet him and everyone together had a satsang.
Organized.
Nanakdev ji illuminated the light of his knowledge in countries like Afghanistan, Kabul, Tibet, Aab etc., he was a great worshiper of humanity, his disciples changed the name of his birth place Talwandi, today it is famous by the name of Nankana Saheb, and is located in Pakistan.
