Several cab drivers staged a protest outside Uber’s driver centre in Bengaluru on Monday alleging reduced earnings due to what they claimed was differential treatment between fleet drivers and independent drivers. The company dismissed the allegations.
According to the protestors under the banner of Bharath Transportation Group, Uber was recruiting drivers from outside Karnataka, which they alleged was impacting local drivers’ earnings. Some drivers also attempted to enter the office by breaking a locked door, prompting police intervention to restore order.
Uber issued a statement condemning the incident and rejecting the allegations. The company stated that its policies ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all drivers irrespective of their operational model. The firm added that it runs on a zero-commission model under which drivers keep the full fare amount after paying a subscription fee.
