Mumbai Suryakumar Yadav, captaining India’s T20 team, was a part of Rohit Sharma’s brilliant team, which won 10 consecutive matches in the 2023 ODI World Cup before losing against Australia in the final in Ahmedabad. Although Surya played only a few matches in that tournament, Suryakumar Yadav was given a chance in the finals also, where he proved to be a failure. However, now Suryakumar Yadav wants to face Australia in the T20 World Cup title match at the same venue next year.
On Tuesday, defending champions India were placed in Group A along with Pakistan, USA, Netherlands and Namibia for the 2026 T20 World Cup, while Australia have been placed in Group B along with Sri Lanka, Ireland, Zimbabwe and Oman. Team India has defeated Australia in both the matches of ICC events since that final held on November 19 in 2023, but the desire to defeat Australia in the final of ICC events remains in the minds of the players, who have won two ICC tournaments since then.
India had defeated Australia by 24 runs in the Super Eight match of the last T20 World Cup and also defeated them by four wickets in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy this year. However, Indian players are desperate that India and Australia face each other in the final of T20 World Cup 2026 on the same ground. When he was asked which team he would like to face in next year’s T20 World Cup final match, Suryakumar replied without any delay, “Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Australia.”
His point was also supported by Indian women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur, whose team won the recent World Cup after defeating Australia in the semi-finals. “Australia is the only team we want to beat, because this is the game that stays with you,” he said during the event to announce the schedule and venues of the T20 World Cup 2026 in Mumbai. Travis Head had scored a century in the World Cup 2023 final, on the basis of which Australia had shut down India in Ahmedabad and lakhs of Indian fans returned from Ahmedabad disappointed.
