The entire film industry is currently engulfed with sorrow and grief as it has lost one of its most beloved icons Dharmendra. Known for his timeless charm strong personality magical screen presence and warmth he was a superstar who resonated with audiences across generations. The legendary actor took his last breath at the age of 89 at his Juhu residence after battling a prolonged illness. While tributes continue to pour in filmmaker Anil Sharma one of Dharmendra’s closest collaborators and family friends has now shared heartbreaking details of the actor’s final days. His statement reveals a blend of hope strength and the emotional turmoil the family experienced in Dharmendra’s last moments.
Anil Sharma on Dharmendras Final Days
Filmmaker Anil Sharma a longtime collaborator and close family friend of the Deols revealed that Dharmendra initially showed signs of recovery after being discharged from the hospital. He said “I went to his home. He had recovered. He would open his eyes and even move his hands. He was recovering and doctors were saying that Dharamji bahut strong aadmi hai. (Doctors said he is a very strong man)”.
Sharma added that even the medical team believed Dharmendra might bounce back. He said “Doctors assured us he would recover and even in the hospital it looked like he would. But age shows its signs and you can’t fight that. Everyone was hopeful and we all thought we would celebrate his birthday on 8 December.”
Dharmendra would have turned 90 next month.

Sharma shared his deep connection with the legendary actor recalling their long journey together. He first directed Dharmendra in Hukumat (1987) and the two later collaborated on films like Elaan-E-Jung Farishtey and Tahalka.
Anil also helmed some of Sunny Deol’s biggest blockbusters including Gadar: Ek Prem Katha The Hero: Love Story of a Spy Singh Saab the Great and Gadar 2.. In 2004 he directed Bobby Deol in Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo and in 2007 he brought together Dharmendra Sunny and Bobby in the family drama Apne.
About Dharmendras Passing
Dharmendra who was in and out of Breach Candy Hospital was shifted to home on 12 November. He took his last breath on 24th November surrounded by family at his home. His passing marks the end of an era and he will always be remembered through his incredible work and the warmth he carried.
