Samay Rainas mockery of specially abled individuals has been a long debate. The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday ordered the comedians Samay Raina Balraj Paramjeet Singh Ghai Sonali Thakkar and Nishant Jagdish Tanwar to raise funds for the people they mocked. The apex court directed the comedians to treat it as a social burden and not a penal burden. The complete story It all started when the comedian made fun of the people suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) on Indias Got Talents YouTube video. This led to widespread outrage among people as it hurt the sentiments of the people. After the public outrage and legal involvement the comedians gave a joint statement in October which read We Samay Raina Vipul Goyal Sonali Thakkar Nishant Tanwar and Balraj Ghai deeply regret the pain caused by our show. Going forward we will be more mindful and do our best to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the community. Your strength inspires us to grow. SCs statement The top court on Thursday directed the comedian Samay Raina along with Balraj Paramjeet Singh Ghai Sonali Thakkar and Nishant Jagdish Tanwar to raise funds. The funds will be aimed at getting the treatment of the disabled people done. It also told them to represent the success stories of such individuals on their platforms for inspiration. The bench consisted of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi. The CJI also gave a proposal for a strict law like the SC/ST Act focused on making inhumane jokes on specially abled people a serious offence. He said You and your team need to be very careful in the future whether within the country or outside.
