At a meeting of the Games’ Organizing Committee on Nov. 27, Kongsak Yodmanee, Director General of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), proposed transferring Singapore, seeded in the fourth pot, to Group A, creating three groups of three teams.
The Thai side said it is awaiting approval from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) before formally notifying member associations.
The women’s football draw remains unchanged: Group A consists of Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia; Group B includes Vietnam, Myanmar, the Philippines and Malaysia.
The Organizing Committee also decided to move men’s Group B matches to Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok. The change is part of venue adjustments after flooding forced several events to be relocated from Songkhla Province.
In addition to football, Cambodia has withdrawn from sepak takraw, petanque, wrestling and several martial arts disciplines, while confirming participation in 13 other sports, including swimming, athletics and volleyball.
The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) said it would maintain involvement in those sports “under allowable conditions.”
Cambodia’s delegation size has reportedly been reduced from about 333 officials and athletes to roughly 150.
Cambodian Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Hang Chuon Naron has urged Thai authorities to guarantee the safety and security of Cambodian participants and to ensure transparent and fair competition.
The NOCC has also instructed its delegation to adopt stricter movement and reporting protocols, including group travel and daily roll calls.
