Google is hosting a special edition of The Android Show next week, focusing on its new Android XR platform. The company has released a short teaser video and a special landing page on its website, indicating that Google will showcase new features related to its XR (Extended Reality) technology at the event. This announcement comes just weeks after Samsung launched its Galaxy XR headset.

Android XR will be the main focus.
Google stated that the new episode of The Android Show will air on December 8th at 10:00 AM PT, which translates to 11:30 PM PT in India. The event's tagline is "exciting XR updates are coming in," indicating that the company will showcase major XR-related upgrades.

The company stated, "From glasses to headsets," meaning Google will offer new tools, features, and developer support for smart glasses and headsets.

The teaser video shows two Android bots, one wearing a Galaxy XR headset and the other, possibly, Google's upcoming XR smartglasses. This suggests that Google may showcase both its smartglasses and headset platforms at the event.

Partnership with Samsung and New Devices
The event page also features a photo of the Samsung Galaxy XR headset, indicating that Google and Samsung are collaborating on XR technology. The Galaxy XR headset was launched last month for USD 1,799 (approximately ₹158,000).

Google also recently showcased prototypes of its Android XR smartglasses. These glasses include a camera, a microphone, an in-lens display, and speakers. Google is collaborating with companies like Samsung, Magic Leap, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker to develop smartglasses. It remains to be seen when they will arrive in India and how much they will cost.

The show will be livestreamed on the Android Developers YouTube channel. Google has also created a countdown page on its website, android.com, where people can sign up for notifications. One line on this page is particularly striking, indicating that Android XR will also feature integration of Google's Gemini AI.
