Mitchell Starc Break Wasim Akram Record: |Australia's fast bowler Mitchell Starc has broken the world record of Wasim Akram. He achieved this feat when he dismissed England batsman Harry Brook in the first innings of the Pink Ball Test being played at Gabba. The big thing is that he broke Wasim Akram's record even after playing 2 matches less than him. Now the question is, what was the world record of Wasim Akram that Mitchell Starc broke?

Wasim Akram's world record broken

The record made by Wasim Akram is related to taking the most wickets in Tests. He was the left arm pacer who took the most wickets in Tests. The former captain of Pakistan had held this record by taking 414 wickets in 104 matches at an average of 23.62. But, now Mitchell Starc has overtaken Akram and has become the left-arm pacer who has taken the most wickets in Test cricket.

Starc broke the record by playing 2 less matches

Mitchell Starc achieved the feat of breaking Wasim Akram's world record in the 102nd match of his Test career. He broke Akram's record by making Harry Brook his 415th Test victim. Starc took 415 wickets in 102 matches at an average of 26.51.

Why are Starc and Akram different from other left arm pacers?

Starc and Akram are the only left arm pacers who have taken 400 or more wickets in Test cricket. Apart from him, Sri Lanka's Chaminda Vaas is at third place, who has taken 355 wickets in 111 matches. New Zealand's Trent Boult took 317 wickets in just 78 tests. Whereas India's Zaheer Khan has taken 311 wickets in 92 tests.

Became the third Australian to take the most wickets in Gabba

Mitchell Starc became the number one left arm pacer by breaking Wasim Akram's record in the Gabba Test. Apart from this, he also became the third Australian after Warne and McGrath to take the most wickets in the Test played at Gabba. In this matter he has left Nathan Lyon behind.

Mitchell Starc is also the Australian bowler taking the most wickets in the Pink Ball Test. Till breaking Akram's record, he had taken 84 wickets in the pink ball test.
