Aalima Khan was protesting with a large number of supporters against the government ban on meeting her brother, but the police used a strong stream of water in the bitter cold to disperse the crowd, forcing many protesters to flee.
According to Pakistani channel Dawn, PTI issued a statement on social media platform X saying that the government is deliberately suppressing peaceful protests. PTI wrote, “Water cannon was used on activists sitting peacefully outside Adiala Jail and Aalima Khan. This is a violation of basic human rights and freedom of assembly in cold weather.” The party also shared a video, in which people are seen running fast to avoid the water cannon.
In its statement, PTI also accused the government that Imran Khan is not being allowed to meet his family despite getting permission from the court to meet him. The party said, “The peaceful protest was held as his family was not allowed to meet him. The use of water cannon is not only a violation of Imran Khan’s prisoner rights, but is also a direct attack on the constitutional rights of his supporters.”

In another post, PTI made even stronger allegations against the police. The party said, “The fascist activities of Punjab Police have started again. People sitting in extreme cold were attacked with water cannons. These cowardly actions will not be able to suppress our voice nor will they be able to reduce our morale.” This incident has made the political environment of Pakistan more tense, especially when Imran Khan is already facing several sanctions and legal cases.
