UNICEF Foundation Day: Today i.e. on 11th December, like every year, UNICEF Foundation Day is being celebrated all over the world. 78 years, 190 countries, the hope of millions of children, UNICEF remains the same today. This organization talks about the protection and upliftment of children. UNICEF speaks out against child labour, child marriage, violence and exploitation and helps governments enact legislation. Apart from this, new schemes are also being implemented to protect children from climate change.

when did the day start

Let us tell you, 78 years ago (11 December 1946) amidst the devastation of the Second World War, the United Nations had created a special organization, which it named – United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund. Has been given. It is said that, during the Second World War, millions of children in Europe were suffering from hunger, disease and homelessness. UNICEF was started only to provide milk, medicine and clothes to these children. No one imagined that this temporary fund, instead of ever closing, would become the world’s largest children’s rights organization. In the year 1953, its name was changed to United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), but the objective remained the same, to reach every child, irrespective of country, religion or situation.

UNICEF works for 190 countries

This organization UNICEF works in more than 190 countries and territories. Apart from helping war-affected children, it is the world’s largest vaccine provider, delivering billions of doses to children every year. It provides food, medicine, tents and protection to children by reaching first in disasters like war, earthquake, flood or drought. It connects children outside school with education and provides clean water and toilets in every village.

UNICEF does this work

You might not know, UNICEF works in many big campaigns in India like polio eradication, mid-day meal, strengthening Anganwadi system and Covid vaccination. The special thing is that UNICEF does not take money from governments, it runs entirely on donations from people. Every rupee is spent transparently, with more than 90 percent reaching the children directly.
