RBI Currency Printing: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holds the right to print and distribute the currency of India. Which note is not issued by the RBI?
The Reserve Bank of India issues all the notes of the Indian currency except the one rupee note. It issues notes of ten rupees twenty rupees fifty rupees one hundred rupees two hundred rupees five hundred rupees and two thousand rupees. The primary reason is that the RBI doesnt have the authority to print one-rupee notes as theyre issued by the Ministry of Finance. These notes also have the signature of the Finance Secretary. This is due to Section 22 of the RBI Act 1934 which gives a special status and rights to the RBI for issuing all notes other than one rupee.
Printing and circulation of Re 1 notes
Now the question arises who prints and circulates the one-rupee notes in India? The Ministry of Finance is the authority which issues these notes. However the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is still responsible for the distribution of one-rupee notes and coins.
