New Delhi: Theres good news for fans of Indian cricket legend Rohit Sharma. It is believed that Rohit Sharma may feature for Mumbai in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. This prestigious domestic 50-over tournament is set to begin on December 24 and Rohit is expected to participate in some of the matches.
Rohits participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy is almost confirmed
According to sources Rohit Sharmas participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy is almost certain. Although the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has not yet received official confirmation from him the 38-year-old batsman is still part of the teams plans.
Selection will be made after the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
Currently the Mumbai team is playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with their last Super League match scheduled for December 16. If the team reaches the final the title match will be played on December 18. The Mumbai team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy will be selected only after this.
Limited matches decision based on availability
According to an MCA official Rohit Sharma may participate in only a few matches. His selection will be on a match-by-match basis and will depend entirely on his availability especially considering the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand.
Matches may clash with the New Zealand series
The three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand begins on January 11. Before that Mumbai has matches against Himachal Pradesh on January 6 and Punjab on January 8 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy while their first match in the tournament is against Sikkim on December 24. Therefore Rohit may have to choose which matches he plays.
