Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has announced his retirement from T20 international cricket. 35-year-old Starc said that he has taken this decision keeping in mind India’s Test tour, the Ashes and the 2027 ODI World Cup. He played his last T20 against India in June 2024.
Mitchell Starc said, “Test cricket has always been my priority. I have enjoyed every minute of every T20 match I have played for Australia, especially in the 2021 World Cup.” Not just because we won the title, but because we had a great team and we had a lot of fun during that time.”
Reason for Mitchell Starc’s retirement from T20I
Australia has a busy schedule in Test cricket next year. Which includes the T20 series against Bangladesh, the tour of South Africa and the 4-match series against New Zealand. In January 2027, Australia will tour India to play a 5-Test series, which will be important in terms of the ICC World Test Championship. After this, the ODI World Cup 2027 will be held in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe, in which the Australian cricket team will enter as the defending champion. Starke has decided to say goodbye to T20, giving priority to Test and ODI.
Mitchell Starc said, “Test series against the Indian cricket team, the Ashes and then the ODI World Cup in 2027. I think this is the right thing to keep myself fit and give my best performance in this tournament.” He also said that this will give the new bowling unit enough time to prepare for the T20 World Cup to be held in 2026.
Mitchell Starc’s T20 International career
