All of you would have noticed the exciting symbol of the Olympic Games. That interesting 5 interlaced rings of 5 different colours, but how many of you know what that means? Well, we have the answer to it.

Who designed the symbol?This unique symbol of the Olympics was designed by Baron Pierre de Coubertin in 1913, and it was used for the first time in 1914 in the games. The symbol symbolises the idea of the representation of the whole world in the game. The rings resonate with the unity of the continents and athletes worldwide, with the interlocking design showing harmony and equality.



What does each color stands for?Each colour in the symbol stands for the 5 continents - Yes, that's the answer. Each ring in the Olympic symbol stands for each continent, Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. In short, the symbol talks about how the games bring together athletes from all the continents and how they are interconnected with the common theme of sportsmanship.

But why only 5 when we have 7 continents!Though there are 7 continents, there are only 5 in the Olympic symbol, why? Well, in the Olympic symbol, North America and South America are considered as one, as Athe mericas and Antarctica are not there since there is no permanent inhabitation there.

Why the 5 colours?Why were the 5 basic colours, blue, yellow, black, green, and red, on a white background, picked for the symbol? The colours in the Olympic symbol were selected because they collectively appear in the flag of every country in the world, representing inclusivity.



When is the next Olympics?The next Olympics are in 2026 at Milan Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, for the Winter Olympics.

When will India host the Olympics?Earlier, India had expressed interest in hosting the 2032 Summer Olympics, but later chose to bid for the 2036 Summer Olympics. Ahmedabad is expected to be the city to host the first-ever Olympics in India.
