CJI Suryakant said that due to the toll, people do not go to weddings, and people are so scared of the traffic jam here.

The Supreme Court reprimanded the MCD - will you impose toll inside Connaught Place tomorrow for money?

In light of the growing pollution problem in Delhi-NCR, the Supreme Court has issued an important suggestion. The court has directed that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) try not to hold toll plazas from October 1st to January 31st next year, as the traffic jams during toll plazas are a major cause of pollution.

The court has ordered the MCD to relocate the toll booth and consider the matter within a week. The court has also asked the National Highways Authority of India to consider collecting tolls and giving a share to the MCD as an alternative. The court reprimanded the MCD, saying, "Tomorrow, for the sake of money, you will start collecting tolls in Connaught Place as well."

During the hearing, the court was informed of the problems that are a major source of pollution in Delhi-NCR, including the Delhi-Gurugram MCD toll plaza. The court was told that this toll plaza causes hours-long traffic jams. Cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles parked on the roads for hours contribute to pollution.

Chief Justice Surya Kant asked, "Then why don't officials tell the MCD not to levy any tolls until January?" The CJI rebuked the MCD, asking, "Tomorrow, for the sake of money, will you start levying tolls inside Connaught Place as well?"

CJI Surya Kant said, "We don't want your income coming in this way, but your tolls do generate litigation. We want a concrete plan to keep the toll plazas closed from October 1 to January 31 next year."

The lawyer told the court that Gurugram also faces a serious pollution problem due to the MCD toll. The CJI said that these are not allegations, but the reality, with which people are grappling every day. The CJI said that because of the toll, people are not able to attend weddings, and that the traffic jams are so scary.
