A pensioner has died after being hit by a van at an Asda car park. Emergency services raced to the supermarket on Greenfield Lane, in Oldham, at approximately 6.50pm yesterday (December 18).
The 78-year-old woman was tragically struck by the driver of a Peugeot Expert who was exiting the car park as she was walking back to her own vehicle, says Greater Manchester Police. This prompted a large emergency services presence with multiple police vehicles and ambulances seen on Thursday night. A large section of the car park was also taped off.
The pensioner suffered significant injuries in the collision and has since sadly died. Officers from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) have now launched an investigation.
Anyone with information is now being urged by the cops to come forward. This includes anyone who witnessed the incident or have dashcam footage of it.
Details can be passed on to SCIU directly on 0161 856 4741, or by contacting GMP on Live Chat at gmp.police.uk, quoting log 253 of November 23, 2025. Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
