The UK has long claimed to have one of the best pub cultures in the world, with thousands of locals, country inns and food-led pubs drawing visitors from across Britain and beyond. So earning a place among the nation's top venues is no small achievement. This year's list of the 50 best gastropubs has now been confirmed, and competition has never been tougher.
The ranking forms part of the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs 2026 list, which highlights the best food pubs across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The list is put together by The Morning Advertiser and voted for by a large panel of hospitality experts from across the UK.
More than 350 people take part in the voting academy, including gastropub operators, food writers, chefs, pub guide editors and senior industry figures.
Each voter chooses four pubs, with at least one vote going to a venue in their region. No one is allowed to vote for a pub they own or work with, helping avoid bias.
The Top 50 Gastropubs list was first created in 2009 and has been running for 17 years.
It aims to celebrate the best cooking, service and atmosphere in UK pubs, while also offering a go-to guide for diners looking for outstanding food in relaxed settings.
This year's results will be announced at a live event at Plaisterers' Hall in London on January 26, 2026, with the full countdown broadcast on Instagram.
A separate One to Watch award will also be revealed on the night, with four pubs currently in the running: The General Tarleton in Harrogate, Dylans at the Kings Arms in St Albans, Brook House in Fulham and The Fence Gate in Burnley.
Ed Bedington, the editor of The Morning Advertiser, said: "This year's list represents some of the best food pubs in the country, and we're delighted to organise this list and awards and recognise the brilliant work these pubs are doing to deliver outstanding gastronomic experiences week in, week out.
"I'd like to wish all the list the best of luck, and they should all be very proud of the hard work they've put in to achieve the recognition of the industry and their peers."
He added separately: "Winning or being shortlisted as a finalist is an excellent way of getting your pub, and yourself, the recognition that you deserve. Getting on this list is the jewel in the crown for foodie pubs across the UK. It's the place to be seen."
