Lionel Messi's sister, Maria Sol, was involved in a car accident while driving her SUV in Miami. Reports suggest she suffered a medical episode before crashing and despite suffering multiple injuries, she is believed to be in a stable condition and out of danger. Journalist Angel de Brito, speaking on America TV's programme LAM, said he had spoken to the Messi family and had read messages on his phone from their mother, Celia.

"Messi's sister is okay, she's out of danger but I was checking things with the family because she was due to get married in Rosario in Argentina on January 3 and she's going to have to suspend it," he read. "She's already started her rehabilitation in Rosario. I asked her mum Celia Cuccittini because I'd received some information and she told me it's true but that Maria Sol is okay. She has two fractured vertebrae, a fractured heel and wrist. The wedding is going to be put back. Celia told me she fainted and hit a wall."

Sol was due to marry Inter Miami under19s coaching staff member Julian 'Tuli' Arellano on January 3, but has since had to postpone the wedding.She is now in Rosario with her family, who remain by her side as she recovers from the accident.

Meanwhile, Messi has yet to comment on the situation. The 38yearold is currently in his offseason after leading Inter Miami to the MLS Cup title.

He recently completed a fourday tour of India before returning to the United States, where he is based in Miami. Unlike her brother Messi, Sol prefers to stay out of the spotlight.

She runs her own business and has established herself as a designer, contributing to several of her brother's projects while building her own brand.
