Taking a big decision, Delhi Capitals has handed over the command of the team to a 25-year-old star player, who was handling the responsibility of vice-captain in the last season.
Delhi Capitals franchise has appointed Indian star batsman Jemimah Rodrigues as the captain of the team for the 2026 season of the Women's Premier League. 25-year-old Jemimah Rodrigues has been an important player for Delhi since the first season of the league and was their first choice in the auction. Recently, Jemimah Rodrigues played an important role in India's historic victory in the ICC Women's World Cup. She had proved her ability to withstand pressure on the big stage, due to which she is now going to captain this league for the first time.
Jemimah Rodrigues has so far played 27 WPL matches in Delhi Capitals jersey, in which she has scored 507 runs at a strike rate of 139.67. The special thing is that she has been a part of the team in every final in all three seasons of the league. She proves to be a big match winner for the team not only with the bat but also in fielding. Speaking on his new role, Rodrigues said, 'It is an honor to be appointed captain of Delhi Capitals, and I am extremely grateful to the owners and support staff for the confidence they have in me to captain this team. It has really been a special year for me and my family, winning the World Cup and now getting to captain a franchise that has held a very special place in my heart since the first season of the WPL.
