Oppo’s Reno 15 series is set to arrive in India soon, bringing with it three models: the Reno 15, Reno 15 Pro, and the compact Reno 15 Pro Mini. And yes, we’ve already had some early time with the Mini.

If photography is your thing, this is probably a phone you’ve already been side-eyeing. Not because Oppo suddenly came out of nowhere, but because the Reno series has quietly built a reputation for doing two things really well in the mid-range space: cameras and design. And with the Reno 15 series, it genuinely feels like Oppo is trying to stretch that formula a little further.

What makes this one extra interesting is that this is Oppo’s first proper compact phone. Not “compact-ish,” not “smaller than last year,” but a phone that actually feels like it’s meant for people who miss one-hand usability without sacrificing the premium experience.

Before getting into the nerdy bits, let’s start with the unboxing.

Oppo Reno 15 Pro Mini unboxing: What's inside the box?

Inside the box, Oppo keeps things familiar. You get the phone front and centre, a fast 80W charger, USB-C cable, TPU Case, SIM ejector, and the usual paperwork.

Nothing shocking here, but also no weird omissions that make you roll your eyes. Oppo still believes in giving you a complete package, and honestly, in 2025, that already feels like a small win.

Oppo Reno 15 Pro Mini in the hand: Compact, balanced, solid

Once the phone is out of the box though, that’s when it clicks.

The size and weight hit you immediately. The Oppo Reno 15 Pro Mini weighs 187 grams and measures just 7.99mm in thickness, at least in this white variant. On paper, that doesn’t sound revolutionary. In the hand, it absolutely does.

This phone feels compact in a way most modern smartphones simply don’t anymore. It’s balanced, it’s easy to grip, and it doesn’t feel like it’s constantly trying to slip out of your palm.

What surprised me the most, though, is the build quality. Despite being slim and relatively lightweight, the phone feels dense in a good way. There’s a reassuring solidity to it. The kind of phone that makes you think, yeah, this can take a few knocks and not immediately panic.

And Oppo has clearly leaned into that confidence because the durability ratings here are wild. You’re getting IP66, IP68, and IP69. That means dust protection, water resistance, and even resistance to high-pressure water jets.

Oppo Reno 15 Pro Mini design: The shimmering ribbon

Now, let’s talk about the design details, because this white variant deserves a moment of its own.

At first glance, it looks clean and understated. But once you start moving it around in the light, you notice this subtle white ribbon-like pattern running across the back. It’s not loud or flashy, but it has this gentle sparkle to it.

As you tilt the phone, the ribbon catches light differently, almost shimmering as it moves. It’s one of those details you don’t fully appreciate in photos, but in person, it adds character. It makes the phone feel less like a plain slab of glass and more like something thoughtfully designed.

It’s classy without trying too hard. The kind of finish that feels premium rather than decorative, and it fits perfectly with the Reno identity.

Oppo Reno 15 Pro Mini display: Slim bezels, big screen feel

Now let’s talk about the display, because this is another area where Oppo is clearly flexing.

Up front, you’re looking at a 6.32-inch AMOLED panel, and yes, it looks as good as you’d expect. Colours pop, contrast is deep, and everything just looks crisp. But the real story here is the bezels. On the sides, they’re just 1.6mm thick, which is genuinely impressive. Even a lot of phones that call themselves flagships don’t manage bezels this slim.

Because of that, the phone feels almost all screen from the front. Oppo claims a 93.35 percent screen-to-body ratio, and honestly, just looking at it, I’m inclined to believe them. It feels immersive without becoming unwieldy, which is exactly what a compact phone should aim for.

Using it casually, scrolling through social media, watching videos, or just navigating the UI, everything feels smooth and premium. This is the kind of display that makes you forget specs and just enjoy the experience.

Oppo Reno 15 Pro Mini performance & cameras: What’s left to test

Of course, there’s still a lot left to test before locking in any final opinions. Real-world performance is a big one. How does it hold up over long days? Does it stay cool during gaming sessions? How’s battery drain when you actually push it instead of babying it?

And then there are the cameras. Because let’s be honest, this is a Reno phone. Cameras are the main event. Oppo has always marketed the Reno series around photography, and expectations are naturally high here. Low-light performance, portrait shots, video stabilisation, and consistency across lenses are all things I’ll be digging into properly.

So for now, consider this a first look rather than a verdict. The Oppo Reno 15 Pro Mini already feels like a statement. A compact phone that doesn’t feel compromised. A design that’s genuinely premium, right down to that shimmering ribbon on the back. And durability that goes way beyond what you’d expect from something this slim.

There’s more testing to do, more photos to shoot, and more battery cycles to burn through. But this one’s interesting, and in a sea of oversized slabs, that already counts for a lot.
