Why Jasprit Bumrah will miss Vijay Hazare Trophy: Details here
24 Dec 2025
Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will not be participating in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India's 50-over domestic competition that started on December 24.
The decision comes despite the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) mandating all players to participate in domestic cricket during a break from international matches.
However, Bumrah has been given special permission by the BCCI to skip this tournament as part of his workload management strategy.
Absence due to rest and recovery
Rest period
According to a report by The Times of India, the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) confirmed Bumrah's absence from the Vijay Hazare Trophy, saying he has been advised to take some time off.
Anil Patel, secretary of the GCA, said, "Bumrah will not feature in VHT as he is taking a rest."
Notably, Bumrah's workload has been in the spotlight due to his injury-prone body.
BCCI's exemption for Bumrah
Workload management
The BCCI has given Bumrah a special leeway to skip domestic matches, ensuring he stays fit for major tournaments.
This strategy is particularly important with the ICC T20 World Cup approaching in February 2026.
Notably, Bumrah's participation in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, starting January 11, is also uncertain.
However, he is expected to return for a T20I leg as part of his preparation for the T20 World Cup.
Bumrah's injury history and road ahead
Injury concerns
Bumrah's career has been perturbed by injury issues.
Earlier this year, he was out for four months with a back injury, missing the all-important ICC Champions Trophy.
He played only three of the five Tests on the England tour.
Since the Asia Cup, Bumrah has appeared in T20I and Test assignments for India but missed the ODI series against Australia and South Africa.
