Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar has officially entered blockbuster territory and there seems to be no slowing down. Released on December 5 the Ranveer Singh-starrer has crossed a staggering Rs 600 crore nett at the Indian box office and is inching towards Rs 900 crore globally. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the fact that the film was released only in Hindi. Despite the language barrier Dhurandhar struck a strong chord with audiences in South India pushing the makers to take a big and strategic call for the sequel. Why is Dhurandhar 2 going pan-India? At the end of Dhurandhar the makers announced that Dhurandhar 2 will hit theatres on March 19 2026 coinciding with Eid. Now it has been confirmed that the sequel will release simultaneously in Hindi Telugu Tamil Kannada and Malayalam making it a full-fledged pan-India film. According to the makers the response from southern states was far stronger than expected. Even without dubbed versions audiences turned up in large numbers driven by strong word-of-mouth social media buzz and repeat viewing. What do the numbers from South India say? Trade figures back the decision. As per Sacnilk Dhurandhar recorded solid occupancy rates in key southern cities. Hyderabad saw 28.75% occupancy Chennai clocked 37.25% while Bengaluru touched an impressive 49.25%. These numbers were comparable to and in some cases better than major North Indian centres like Mumbai (30%) and NCR (33.75%). South Indian distributors reportedly urged the makers to release dubbed versions stating that the film’s scale action and storyline clearly appealed to regional audiences. What made Dhurandhar click with audiences? Directed written and co-produced by Aditya Dhar Dhurandhar is mounted on a grand scale. The film stars Ranveer Singh as Hamza Ali Mazari also known as Jaskirat Singh Rangi a man sent on a dangerous undercover mission to Pakistan to infiltrate a Baloch gang operating out of Lyari. The film’s gripping narrative high-voltage action and layered performances helped it gain momentum beyond opening weekend numbers. What to expect from Dhurandhar 2? While the first part focused on the mission Dhurandhar 2 will explore Hamza’s backstory something that was teased in the film’s closing moments. The sequel is expected to go deeper into the character’s past motivations and moral conflicts. The franchise boasts a powerful ensemble cast including Akshaye Khanna Sanjay Dutt R Madhavan Arjun Rampal Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi with production backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios. Interestingly Dhurandhar 2 will face box-office competition from Yash and Kiara Advani’s Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups during the Eid 2026 window setting the stage for a major theatrical clash. With massive numbers cross-regional appeal and a growing fan base Dhurandhar has clearly become more than just a hit film; it’s now a franchise with pan-India ambitions.
