The Delhi government has temporarily halted the DSSSB TGT and PGT recruitment exams for 2026. The Education Minister stated that a change in the age limit is being considered in light of the candidates' demands. Read on for details.

A significant update has emerged for thousands of young people dreaming of becoming teachers in Delhi. The TGT recruitment exam 2026, conducted by the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB), has been temporarily postponed. This decision was made following instructions from the Delhi government. The government says that the demands related to the age limit of the candidates will be considered before the exam.

How many TGT and PGT posts are there?

A total of 5,346 TGT posts in various subjects were to be filled under DSSSB. The exam for these posts was scheduled from March 2 to March 22, 2026. The PGT exam was scheduled to begin on March 26, 2026. All these exams were to be conducted in CBT (Computer-Based Test) mode.

Admit Card and Application Process

Admit cards for the TGT recruitment exam were to be issued in March. The application process ran from October 9, 2025, to November 7, 2025. Millions of candidates had applied for this recruitment. Now, after the postponement of the exam, candidates will have to wait for the new schedule.

Exam was scheduled for March 2026

This DSSSB exam was previously scheduled to be held on different dates in March 2026. Many candidates were fully engaged in their preparation. However, in view of the continuous questions being raised regarding the age limit and the protests by the candidates, the government decided to temporarily halt the exam.

Why is there a demand for increasing the age limit?

Candidates say that there were significant delays in some of the previous recruitments, due to which many candidates exceeded the prescribed age limit. As a result, they were deprived of the opportunity to take the exam. Therefore, there was a continuous demand on social media and other platforms to increase the age limit for TGT and PGT posts. What could be the next decision?

According to sources, the maximum age limit for TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) posts is being considered for an increase from 30 to 32 years. A similar age relaxation may also be granted for PGT (Post Graduate Teacher) posts. However, the government has clarified that a final decision has not yet been made. Reports have been requested from the Education Department and the DSSSB (Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board), after which further action will be taken.

The DSSSB has also clarified that new exam dates will not be released until the age limit issue is completely resolved. Candidates are advised to rely only on official notifications and continue their preparation.
