New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a holiday list for banks for January 2026 during which banks will be closed due to various occasions. These holidays include the second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays.
To facilitate your bank-related activities we share with you the dates when the banks will be closed during January 2026 so that you can carry out your undertakings by planning well in advance. These include Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays. These holidays will not be uniform across the country but will vary from state to state.
Bank Holidays In January 2026
In January 2026 public and private sector banks will remain closed on various festivals and special occasions. These holidays include New Years Day Swami Vivekananda Jayanti Bihu Makar Sankranti Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti and Republic Day. In some states banks may remain closed for two or three consecutive days due to these holidays. In addition banks will also be closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month and every Sunday.

January 1: New Years Day / Gan-Ngai (This holiday will be observed in Aizawl Chennai Gangtok Imphal Itanagar Kohima Kolkata Shillong).
January 2: New Years Celebration / Mannam Jayanti (This holiday will be observed in Aizawl Kochi Thiruvananthapuram).
January 3: Birthday of Hazrat Ali (This holiday will be observed in Kanpur and Lucknow).
January 12: Swami Vivekananda Jayanti (This holiday will be observed in Kolkata).
January 14: Makar Sankranti / Magh Bihu (This holiday will be observed in Mumbai Ahmedabad Bhubaneswar Guwahati and Itanagar).
January 15: Uttarayan Punyakal / Pongal / Maghi Sankranti (This holiday will be observed in Bengaluru Chennai Gangtok Hyderabad and Vijayawada).
January 16: Thiruvalluvar Day (This holiday will be observed in Chennai).
January 17: Uzhavar Thirunal (This holiday will be observed in Chennai).
January 23: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti / Saraswati Puja / Basant Panchami (This holiday will be observed in Agartala Bhubaneswar and Kolkata).
January 26: Republic Day (This holiday will be observed throughout the country).
Weekend Bank Holidays List
Banks will be closed on the second Saturday across India on January 10.
Banks will be closed on the fourth Saturday across India on January 24.
Bank holidays on Sundays across India on these dates: January 4 11 18 and 25.
In the case of a month with five Saturdays the fifth Saturday will be a working day.
Online Banking
You can transact money or do other work through online banking and ATMs on bank holidays. While the banks will remain closed on these days the internet and mobile banking will work as usual and customers will be able to make online transactions easily. Customers are advised to visit their respective bank branches to know about the working days of the banks in their regions.
