At present, tension between America and Venezuela is increasing. Trump had already warned that ground attacks could also be carried out against Venezuela. Apart from this, the US military also attacked several boats in the Caribbean Sea and the Eastern Pacific Ocean, which were accused of drug smuggling. According to the information of the US Army, so far 107 people have been killed in at least 30 attacks in this maritime campaign.
Trump has repeatedly said that ground action can also be taken in Venezuela to pressure Maduro to leave power and for this he has also imposed strict sanctions.
However, Maduro has completely denied any connection to any crime. He says that America wants to remove him from power and get access to Venezuela's large oil reserves and mineral resources.
Before this attack, US President Donald Trump had warned Venezuela several times that America was preparing to take new action against the alleged drug trafficking network in Venezuela. In October, Trump had said that he had given permission to the CIA to work inside Venezuela, so that illegal drug smuggling and the movement of migrants from there could be stopped.
CNN has contacted the White House for comment on this matter, but has not yet received a response.
The Trump administration alleges that Maduro runs a drug cartel. America is taking strict action against drug smuggling. Maduro has completely rejected these allegations. He says that he is not involved in the drug trade and that America actually wants to topple his government, because Venezuela has the world's largest oil reserves.
For several weeks, Trump had been threatening ground attacks against drug cartels in the region and saying they would begin soon.
