Netflix's top 10 film chart is currently topped by a deeply disturbing true crime documentary that has left audiences both heartbroken and unnerved.
Holding the number one spot, this chilling real-life horror tale only reached its conclusion in 2024 when two women were handed four consecutive sentences of one to 15 years for their heinous crimes.
Released on the streaming giant on Tuesday, 30th December, it has evidently resonated with subscribers who have been flocking to watch the service's latest crime documentary.
Evil Influencer: The Jodi Hildebrandt Story delves into the harrowing encounter between family counsellor Hildebrandt and content creator Ruby Franke.
Both residing in Utah, the women met at their local Mormon church and formed a tight-knit bond, deciding to venture into business together, reports the Mirror.
Hildebrandt, the founder of life-coaching company ConneXions, became a constant presence in Franke's life as she was resolved to "fix" the content creator's contentious parenting methods and family dynamics.
Their destructive relationship would culminate in both women being convicted of child abuse, their arrest following an incident where one of Franke's children was caught on CCTV fleeing Hildebrandt's home, where he and his younger sister were held captive. Both women are currently serving their sentences at the Utah State Correctional Facility in Salt Lake City.
The documentary has left viewers rattled, prompting them to share their reactions on social media.
One social media user posted: "This Evil Influencer documentary on Netflix is so deeply disturbing."
Another viewer expressed immediate shock: "I'm 5 minutes into the Evil Influencer Netflix doc and I've already said 'my God' out loud at least 3 times."
A third admitted: "I feel emotionally beaten up after watching Evil Influencer: The Jodi Hildebrandt Story. The utter depravity and malevolence. I didn't think the story could get any worse than what was in the news when it happened, but I was wrong."
Discussion spilled over onto Reddit, where one user commented: "Oh Gosh , I am not okay. This show had me shaking I was so upset!"
Another responded: "Yes I saw it. Truly sick people.
"I fast forwarded it to about ten minutes from the end after watching it for awhile. Didn't need to know all the details."
The Guardian's Lucy Mangan even proposed a documentary cleanse in her review, questioning "shall we all vow not to watch true-crime this twisted in 2026?"
Countless Netflix subscribers have already found themselves both captivated and appalled by this latest offering, so consider this fair warning that Evil Influencer might be best avoided by anyone seeking undemanding viewing this weekend.
