What is the MEXT Scholarship?

The Japanese government runs a scholarship program for foreign students called the MEXT Scholarship (Monbukagakusho). This scholarship is administered by the Japanese Ministry of Education. Under this scholarship, foreign students do not have to pay any tuition fees to study at Japanese universities. This is a fully funded scholarship from the Japanese government.

Under this program, students not only receive a tuition fee waiver, but the government also provides a stipend for living expenses and food. This allows foreign students to complete their studies in Japan without financial worries. Indian students can also benefit from this scholarship. Through this, they can study at top universities and colleges in Japan. This scholarship includes tuition fees as well as airfare.

Eligibility Requirements for the MEXT Scholarship

Some rules and conditions have been set to avail of this scholarship. If a candidate fulfils these conditions, they are considered eligible for this scholarship.

If a student wants to apply for the MEXT scholarship for undergraduate studies, their age should be approximately between 17 and 25 years. In addition, the candidate must have approximately 80 per cent marks in their 12th grade examinations.

If a candidate wishes to go to Japan for a Master's, PhD, or research studies through this scholarship, they must not be older than 35 years of age. For these courses, the candidate must have at least 70 percent marks in their previous degree.

The candidate must be an Indian citizen. Furthermore, the candidate must be mentally and physically healthy.
