On January 4–5, 2026, producer **Deepak Mukut** confirmed that a sequel to the 2001 political drama film **Nayak: The Real Hero** is being made. He and **Anil Kapoor** will co-produce **Nayak 2**, in which Kapoor will reprise his iconic role of Shivaji Rao Gaekwad.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Mukut spoke on reports of Kapoor buying the rights outright, saying: “He and I are making the film together. It’s too early to say anything about it right now as a lot of talks are going on.” He confirmed the sequel’s progress and Kapoor’s presence on screen: “Of course he will be there!”

Originally A.M. Produced by Ratnam and S. Directed by Shankar, *Nayak* is the Hindi remake of Shankar’s 1999 Tamil hit *Mudhalvan*. In this, Kapoor plays the role of a TV journalist who becomes the Chief Minister for a day and challenges corruption. The cast includes Rani Mukherjee, Amrish Puri, Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever and Saurabh Shukla. Although it did not do well at the box-office initially, it gained cult status after being shown again on TV.

No details have been revealed about the director, rest of the cast, script or timeline, as the project is still in the early stages.
