A severe collision on a key UK motorway has resulted in the closure of both carriageways as an air ambulance is dispatched to the scene.

The M27, spanning between Southampton and Portsmouth, has been sealed off by Hampshire emergency services between junctions 11 and 12 in the early hours of Tuesday, 6th January, The Mirror reports.

It is anticipated that the motorway will remain closed for a considerable period of time.
