Synopsis

In a bold move, employees of JetLite have turned to the bankruptcy court, pushing for their outstanding dues to be recognized in the Jet Airways liquidation saga. Following Jet Airways' acquisition of Sahara Airlines in 2007 and the subsequent rebranding, around 100 workers are fighting back after their claims were dismissed during the insolvency process.

Employees of JetLite, the erstwhile low-fare unit of Jet Airways, have moved the dedicated bankruptcy court for inclusion in the liquidation process of Jet Airways (India) Ltd and admission of their dues.

In an application to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), the employees have argued that despite evidence of operational integration, financial interdependence, and unified management between Jet Airways and JetLite, the claims of Jet Lite's workmen or employees were systematically rejected throughout the corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP) and continue to face rejection in the liquidation proceedings.

In 2007, Jet Airways acquired Sahara Airlines (Air Sahara), subsequently rebranded the latter as JetLite.

About 100 employees are seeking admission of claims totalling around ₹48 crore in Jet Airways' liquidation process.
