“It was an honor to meet Speaker Mike Johnson at Capitol Hill today,” Kwatra remarked. “Deep appreciation for his support for strengthening the India-US bilateral relationship,” he added.

The ambassador expressed gratitude to the Speaker for US assistance with security matters. According to Kwatra, he expressed gratitude to Johnson “for his solidarity with India’s counterterrorism efforts following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April 2025.”

Kwatra claimed to have informed the Speaker on the wide range of US-India cooperation. “Key areas of our partnership, including defense & security, oil and gas trade, technology, including AI,” he stated, were discussed.

Additionally, he claimed to have informed Johnson about India’s trade goals. According to Kwatra, India and the US are aiming for “a fair, balanced, and mutually beneficial trade deal.”

The US-India relationship now revolves on defense and security cooperation. In recent years, the two nations have strengthened defense trade and military drills.

Cooperation in energy has increased. India currently receives a significant amount of its liquefied natural gas and crude oil from the United States.

Another area of concentration is technology collaboration. Both nations have emphasized working together in cutting-edge areas like artificial intelligence.

India’s ongoing outreach to US legislative leaders is seen in Kwatra’s meeting with the House Speaker. Congress is crucial in determining US foreign, trade, and defense policies.

In Washington, India has looked for strong bipartisan backing. In order to maintain long-term collaboration, New Delhi believes that interaction with Congress is essential.

The United States and India refer to their partnership as a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Regular high-level interactions and institutional discussions are part of the collaboration.
