Typhoid still remains a major threat to people’s health in many areas. The main reason for this is dirty water and contaminated food. Where sanitation facilities are weak, the risk of spread of this disease is much higher. This infection, caused by a bacteria called Salmonella Typhi, is usually spread by eating infected food or drinking water. Typhoid can be completely cured with timely identification and proper treatment, but due to lack of information and carelessness, many patients get treatment late.

Typhoid often begins with very common symptoms, such as mild fever, headache, fatigue, or stomach discomfort. Since these symptoms seem like viral fever, people do not take them seriously. Especially in children and youth, the disease does not appear to be serious in the initial stages, but without treatment, the infection keeps increasing gradually.

Misconceptions and prevention measures to typhoid

Many misconceptions about typhoid prevent people from getting timely treatment. It is wrong to believe that typhoid always starts with high fever or that this disease cannot occur if appetite is improved. Similarly, the idea that one can be protected from typhoid only by living in a clean house is also not correct. Outside food, raw vegetables, snow or contaminated water can bring disease into any clean home.

Another dangerous misconception is to stop antibiotics as soon as the fever subsides. Doing this does not completely eliminate the bacteria and the disease may re-emerge, and the effect of the medicines may also weaken.

To avoid typhoid, it is very important to drink clean water, take care of food hygiene, get tested on time and take the full course of medicines prescribed by the doctor. If the fever persists for a long time or typhoid-like symptoms appear, the safest and most prudent step is to immediately contact a doctor.
