Bangladesh Cricket Team: Doubts are increasing regarding Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2026 to be held in India from next month. Amidst the increasing tension between BCCI and BCB, former captain Tamim Iqbal has given a statement which has created a stir in Bangladesh cricket. Tamim has warned the board that a wrong decision taken today out of emotions can push Bangladesh cricket back for the next 10 years.
Tamim Iqbal said during an interview that the board should not risk its relations with ICC under the pressure of ‘public emotion’. He said, “Don’t get carried away by the crowd. When we play, the spectators say a lot out of emotion, but if you start taking decisions based on emotions, then you cannot run such a big organization (BCB). Today’s decisions will have an impact on the next 10 years.”
Tamim reminded BCB of a ‘bitter truth’. He said that 90 to 95 percent of Bangladesh Cricket’s funding comes directly from the revenue distribution received from the ICC. If Bangladesh boycotts the World Cup or takes a tough stand against India, thereby angering the ICC, then the Bangladesh Cricket Board may have to suffer huge financial losses, which will put the future of domestic cricket and players there in danger.
This whole controversy started when IPL franchise KKR released Mustafizur Rahman on the instructions of BCCI. After this, citing security reasons, Bangladesh had demanded to shift its T20 World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka. However, ICC has rejected this demand.
