Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed special prayers at Somnath Temple in Gujarat. At the temple, Modi performed Jalabhishek on the Shivalinga, offered flowers and participated in the sanctification of the temple by anointing it with Panchamrit. He visited the temple after staying in the temple for about 30 minutes.

Outside the temple, the Prime Minister met the priests and local artists and created an atmosphere of enthusiasm by playing drums. After this he reached Sadbhavna Ground and addressed the public meeting.

In the morning, Modi took out Shaurya Yatra from Shankh Circle and also shared the beats of Damru during the journey of about one km. Visited the temple and participated in the collective chanting of Om Mantra.

This event is being organized under ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’, which has been named by PM Modi himself. This festival is going on from 8 to 11 January. On this occasion, a drone show was also organized, in which people showed a lot of enthusiasm.

History of Somnath: From Destruction to Reconstruction

PM Modi said in the rally organized at Sadbhavna Ground that Ghaznavi felt that he had erased the existence of Somnath. But after this the temple was rebuilt. Khilji demolished the temple, but the kings of Junagadh rebuilt it. The Prime Minister also reminded that there were many attempts to destroy Somnath, but neither the temple nor India was destroyed.

He said, “Today, 1,000 years ago, our ancestors sacrificed everything for their faith and belief. Their bravery continues to inspire us even today.”

Worship and Shaurya Yatra in Somnath Temple

Prime Minister Modi offered prayers in the temple for about 30 minutes. He offered water to Shivalinga, anointed it with Panchamrit and offered flowers. After the puja he met the priests and local artists and also played the dhol (Chenda instrument).

On Sunday morning, PM Modi participated in the Shaurya Yatra by taking a symbolic procession of 108 horses. During this, he played two drums each in both hands. In the Shaurya Yatra, tribute was paid to the brave Hamirji Gohil who sacrificed his life in the defense of Somnath temple.

Somnath Swabhiman Parv and Drone Show

Somnath Swabhiman festival is being organized from 8 to 11 January. Prime Minister Modi himself has named this festival. On its first day, PM Modi took part in chanting Om mantra, performed Maha Aarti and visited the temple among thousands of devotees.

In the drone show, figures of Somnath Gatha, Trishul, Om, Lord Shiva Ka Tandav, Veer Hamirji, Ahilyabai Holkar, Sardar Patel and Prime Minister Modi were displayed through 3,000 drones.

PM Modi’s message

PM Modi said, “The saga of Somnath cannot be described in words. The 72-hour long Omkar and mantra chanting, Shaurya Yatra and celebrations are all mesmerizing. Only time can capture this experience.”

Addressing the rally, he said, “This atmosphere, the rays of the sun, the waves of the sea, the echo of mantras and the presence of devotees are making this occasion divine. I got the opportunity to serve in this Swabhiman Parv as the President of Somnath Trust. It is my good fortune.

Somnath Swabhiman festival is being organized to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of Mahmud Ghazni’s attack in the year 1026 AD. On this occasion, hundreds of saints and devotees from across the country reached Somnath. PM Modi paid tribute to the warriors who sacrificed their lives in the defense of the temple.

Apart from Shaurya Yatra, Prime Minister Modi also participated in Om Mantra chanting, Maha Aarti and drone show on the first day of his visit. In the drone show, Somnath saga, Trishul, Om, Tandav of Lord Shiva, Veer Hamirji, Ahilyabai Holkar, scene of attack on Somnath temple, Sardar Patel, logo of Swabhiman Parv and figures of Prime Minister Modi were displayed through about 3000 drones.
