The fourth season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) kicked off with a high-voltage clash on Friday, January 9. Playing at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clinched a nail-biting victory over the Mumbai Indians to start their campaign on a high note.
Away from the action, RCB captain Smriti Mandhana experienced a brief moment of frustration with a cameraman during her pre-match warm-ups. A viral video shows the cameraman interrupting her practice session on the field by moving too close while she was facing throw-downs. The Indian cricket star was clearly annoyed by the disturbance to her focus.
In the game, Mandhana scored 18 runs off 13 balls. Despite her early exit, the team achieved a spectacular three-wicket win fueled by an explosive batting performance from Nadine de Klerk.
Speaking after the match, Smriti said, "I think the first match of the WPL was thrilling. RCB is known for exciting games. Last year, we lost matches like these, so I am very happy we successfully finished it this time. Nadine performed brilliantly to close out the game."
