Yonex Sunrise India Open 2026: Victor Lei wins a tough match, Brian Yang also continues to shine, the round of upsets continues

New Delhi: World Championship bronze medalist Victor Lei of Canada registered a tough three-game win to reach the second round of men’s singles at the Yonex Sunrise India Open 2026 Super 750 badminton tournament here on Tuesday, while his compatriot Brian Yang pulled off an upset by defeating fourth seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in straight games.

In women’s singles, Indonesia’s sixth seed and World Championship bronze medalist daughter Kusuma Wardani and Thailand’s experienced seventh seed Ratchanok Intanon were successful in registering victory. Twenty-one-year-old Victor defeated Toma Junior Popov of France 21-12, 16-21, 21-8 while Yang defeated Tian Chen 21-19, 21-11 in straight games.

In another men’s singles match, Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu Jen caused an upset by defeating sixth seed Alex Lanier of France in straight games 21-17, 21-19. In women’s singles, former world number one Ratchanok didn’t have to sweat much during her 21-19, 21-15 win against Japan’s Riko Gunji while Kusuma Vardani had to fight hard to defeat experienced Michelle Lee of Canada 21-12, 20-22, 21-15. Denmark’s veteran Mia Blichfeldt entered the second round by defeating Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Pin Chien 21-19, 21-11 in straight games.
