After completing 10th grade, you can directly enroll in a course that, upon completion, will make you an Ayurvedic doctor. This course has been launched by the Central Sanskrit University.

What is the Ayurveda Gurukulam course?

Ayurveda Gurukulam is an integrated course that begins after the 10th grade. In this course, students are taught Ayurveda from the very beginning through the medium of Sanskrit. The course includes Ayurvedic scriptures, texts, medical practices, and modern medical knowledge.

According to Vice-Chancellor Professor Srinivas Varkhedi, the objective of this program is to promote Ayurveda in its original language and tradition so that students can understand ancient knowledge in its true form.

How long is this course?

The total duration of this integrated program is 7.5 years. It includes basic studies in Sanskrit and Ayurveda in the initial years, followed by professional Ayurvedic medical education, and finally, an internship. After completing this course, students can become Ayurvedic doctors, open their own clinics, work in government and private Ayurvedic hospitals, and pursue careers in research and teaching.

Why is this course special?

This course is considered special because it gives students the opportunity to pursue a career as a doctor right after completing 10th grade, which is not usually possible in the medical field. The program is taught in Sanskrit, allowing students to gain a deep understanding of the original texts and traditional knowledge of Ayurveda. Another unique aspect is that the course combines traditional Ayurvedic education with modern medical knowledge, enabling students to keep pace with contemporary advancements. Upon completion, students receive a recognized and professional degree like the BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery), opening up numerous career paths as an Ayurvedic doctor.
