The Masked Singer fans were left disappointed by the latest unveiling, with many admitting they weren't aware who the celebrity behind the disguise was. The ITV singing competition returned with a Halloween-themed episode on Saturday (January 17) night, with judges Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Maya Jama once again tasked with working out who was behind the elaborate costume. Following an evening of impressive performances, it was Sloth and Gargoyle who were forced to battle it out in the sing-off.
With Sloth receiving the most votes from the judges, Gargoyle was eliminated and forced to remove the mask. The celebrity was revealed to be American singer-songwriter Marcella Detroit, best known as one half of the pop duo Shakespears Sister alongside Siobhan Fahey.
However, the reveal left some viewers at home confused, with several admitting on X that they weren't sure who Marcella is. "Who?" asked one viewer as a second echoed: "Who? Who's that?"
"Not sure the judges knew who she was when she took the head off," admitted a third as another posted: "Hadn't a clue who she was. Had to look her up. She doesn't look 73."
An additional fan commented: ""Marcella Detroit sounds like Siobhan Fahey these days. What a disappointment."
Others were surprised with how well Marcella has aged, with one declaring: "She looks amazing!" Another admitted they would have "never guessed" that she was behind the mask.
Following her exit, Marcella admitted she was "really sad" to go, describing the show as an "incredible experience".
She continued: "Everyone has been so nice and so much fun. Very helpful, really kind. I got the offer at the beginning of the summer and my husband is British and we have wanted to come back to England for quite some time.
"My husband has been wonderful in that he has come to live with me in America for a few decades, but he was missing his homeland and we've been saying after the pandemic happened, we really want to get back to England and spend some time there."
Marcella added: "Then we got this opportunity, the universe just put it in our laps, we were like 'oh my god, this is so perfect'. So that was one of the reasons and I also thought it would be so much fun."
Marcella is the fourth celebrity to be eliminated from the competition, following the exits of John Lydon, Alex Jones and Professor Green.
