Juhu: A late-night road accident in the Juhu area of Mumbai has once again drawn attention to the growing issue of reckless driving in metropolitan cities. The incident, which occurred on a busy stretch of road, involved a high-speed luxury car, an auto-rickshaw, and a vehicle from the security convoy of Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar. Mumbai Police confirmed that the driver of the speeding car has been taken into custody and a case has been registered for rash and negligent driving. The incident has sparked discussions around road discipline, enforcement of traffic laws, and the safety of common citizens sharing roads with high-end vehicles.
According to official statements, the accident took place around 8:30 pm on Monday night. A speeding Mercedes car reportedly lost control and rammed into an auto-rickshaw from behind. Due to the impact, the auto-rickshaw overturned and further collided with another car that was part of the security entourage of Akshay Kumar. The chain collision resulted in chaos on the road, leaving commuters and local residents shocked by the severity of the crash.
Police officials stated that two individuals sustained injuries in the collision involving the two cars and the auto-rickshaw. Emergency services were rushed to the spot, and the injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The damaged vehicles were later removed to restore traffic flow in the area.
The Juhu Police Station acted promptly following the accident. The driver of the Mercedes car, identified as Radheshyam Rai, was taken into custody for questioning. A formal case was registered against him under sections 281, 125(A), and 125(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deal with rash driving, negligence, and acts endangering human life.
Mumbai Police officials emphasized that speeding and careless driving would not be tolerated, especially in densely populated areas like Juhu where pedestrian and vehicular traffic remains high throughout the day and night. Authorities also stated that further investigation is underway to determine whether alcohol consumption or any other violation contributed to the accident.
Among those injured, the auto-rickshaw driver remains in a serious condition. His brother, Mohammed Sameer, spoke to the media expressing deep concern over his sibling’s health. He stated that the auto-rickshaw was completely destroyed in the accident, leaving the family not only emotionally distressed but also financially affected.
According to Sameer, the family’s primary demand is that the injured driver receives proper medical care without delay. He also urged authorities to ensure compensation for the extensive damage caused to the auto-rickshaw, which was the driver’s sole source of livelihood. His statement reflects the struggles faced by daily wage earners when such incidents disrupt their ability to work.
Soon after the accident, videos from the crash site began circulating on social media platforms. The footage showed local residents assisting police personnel in pulling an injured man out of the wreckage. These visuals highlighted both the severity of the crash and the immediate response from bystanders who stepped in to help before emergency teams fully took control.
