New Delhi: Amazon company is going to start another big layoff of its employees from next week. According to sources, the company is planning to eliminate the jobs of about 14,000 corporate employees. This layoff may start from Tuesday.
This is the second part of the company’s target of reducing a total of 30,000 jobs. Let us tell you, almost the same number of jobs were lost in the first round in October 2025.
These departments will be affected
These layoffs are likely to mainly impact Amazon Web Services (AWS), retail department, Prime Video and human resources (people experience and technology). Most of the company’s total employees work in warehouses and fulfillment centers, but these layoffs will mainly be on white-collar i.e. office jobs, which together account for about 10 percent of the company’s corporate staff. However, this number is small among the more than 15 lakh employees of the company.
CEO Andy Jesse explained the reason
Company CEO Andy Jassy had earlier said that this layoff was not due to saving money or AI. He called it a matter of company culture. He says that due to rapid growth, there have been too many people and many layers in the company, due to which bureaucracy has increased.
Jesse wants the company to become as fast and simple as before. He said that with increasing use of AI, the number of corporate employees may reduce further in future, but right now the main reason is to reduce bureaucracy.
Role of AI and company strategy
The company had linked the first round of layoffs to AI. It was said in an internal letter that AI is bringing the biggest change after the Internet and with this the company can create new things faster. But later the CEO clarified that it is not directly to finance or AI.
The company is increasing the use of AI tools to write code and automate everyday tasks. New AI models were also shown at the AWS conference in December.
Why is this Amazon’s biggest layoff?
This will be the biggest layoff in Amazon’s 30-year history. In 2022, the company had reduced about 27,000 jobs. Employees affected by the October layoffs continued to receive salaries for 90 days and could look for internal jobs. This time is now coming to an end. The company is providing severance package, health benefits and assistance to the employees.
