The Election Commission of the country has written a letter to all the states, regarding disciplinary action against Booth Level Officer (BLO). The Commission has said, if any BLO commits misconduct, non-compliance of instructions of the Commission, violation of rules, negligence in election related work, conduct affecting honesty and impartiality, then disciplinary action will be taken against him.

Referring to the process of action, the Election Commission said that the District Election Officer (DEO) will suspend the BLO in such cases. Will recommend disciplinary action to the concerned departmental authority. In case of criminal misconduct, FIR will be lodged with the permission of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).

Action based on DEO/ERO report

Similarly, the Chief Electoral Officer can take cognizance or take action on the basis of the report of DEO/ERO. Decisions like suspension, departmental inquiry or filing FIR can be taken. The decision taken by the CEO will be implemented through the concerned DEO. The DEO will immediately take necessary action as per the procedure prescribed by the Commission.

What action was taken? tell the election commission

The Election Commission said that disciplinary action will not be taken without the prior consent of the CEO. Information about all the actions will also be given to the Election Commission of the country. Let us tell you that recently the Election Commission had expressed displeasure over the attitude of the state government on the indiscipline of BLOs and election related officials in West Bengal and sought clarification from the Chief Secretary.

He said, all I can say is that the way the Election Commission is conspiring to remove names from the voter list, will the Election Commission be responsible for the anger that erupts on the day of release of the final list? Will the Commission be responsible for the situation arising on that day when names of valid voters are removed from the list?
