Guwahati, Jan 24: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday that only teachers from government schools will serve as invigilators for the HSLC and Higher Secondary Final Examinations scheduled for 2026 in Assam.

During an orientation session for Centre Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents held in Khanapara, Sarma stated that the exams will take place solely in government institutions, a decision aimed at promoting fairness and accountability.

“This time, private schools will not host examinations. If issues arise, the government cannot hold private teachers accountable. Hence, we have opted to depend entirely on government educators,” he explained to the media.

The Chief Minister reassured that there would be ample personnel available for invigilation and other examination responsibilities.

“Recently, approximately 10,000 teachers have been hired, and we anticipate appointing another 5,000 by February. There will be no lack of teachers; in fact, some districts may even have an excess,” Sarma noted.

Sarma emphasized that this decision was made to enhance administrative oversight and avoid any lapses during the examination process.

“The exams will coincide with the election period. Since we may not be able to provide regular updates due to the election activities, we have invited the centre in-charges today to ensure the examinations run smoothly,” he added.

Referencing the successful management of the ADRE examinations by trained government teachers, Sarma mentioned that the School Education Board has established comprehensive training programs for officials tasked with examination duties.

“The board has implemented proper training and clear protocols for conducting examinations. We did not delve into technical specifics today; we simply urged everyone to fulfill their responsibilities diligently,” he remarked.

The Chief Minister also briefly discussed his recent trip to Davos, Switzerland, indicating that discussions regarding investment proposals would commence after Republic Day.

“Following Republic Day, I will provide detailed insights about the discussions in Davos and the investors interested in Assam. Numerous investors are expected to visit the state, and we plan to host an event in February,” he stated, adding that Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) would be signed in Assam.

The orientation session concluded with the state government reaffirming its dedication to conducting board examinations that are free, fair, and transparent, placing the onus on centre superintendents and assistant superintendents.
