The BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia provided an explanation about the absence of central contracts for domestic players who meet the requirements because they do not secure these contracts. His comments come just days before the board prepares to issue fresh contracts for players involved in international cricket across formats. The BCCI allows state associations to operate independently according to their own operational needs without imposing any required decisions upon them.
The BCCI secretary informed Sportstar that all state associations operate independently while receiving proper assistance from the board. He mentioned that state bodies possess the authority to develop their own regulations which govern how their players will compete. The BCCI has continuously encouraged domestic players to represent India in all formats of cricket. The concept has failed to produce results in recent years because multiple players without central contracts continue to appear for international matches.
BCCI secretary Saikia: “The BCCI cannot put its diktats on the state association. Everybody is autonomous, and they have to frame their own policy. All the associations are doing their best for the growth of the game. I am sure all associations are well supported by the BCCI, and they can take any welfare schemes for development of the game, as well as the players and also the other stakeholders, including the umpires, scorers, coaches, and training staff. They can formulate their policy, and sufficient fund is being pumped into all the state associations.”
The BCCI secretary confirmed that central board funding issues cannot become a basis for state complaints. He confirmed that A+ category will be discontinued which will lead to Rohit Virat Jadeja and Bumrah moving to lower grades.

He added: “Not a single association is complaining that there is a dearth of funds for which they cannot take welfare measures. I am sure they are doing their best, and at the national level, the BCCI is obviously always supportive.”
