According to the Directorate of Public Instruction, representatives of the kitchens sitting on strike had held talks with the Director, Directorate of Public Instruction and Secretary, School Education Department, Government of Chhattisgarh. In this meeting, information was given about the action taken to increase the honorarium of cooks by 25 percent, i.e. by Rs 500. After this, the cooks were requested to end their strike and return to their respective places of residence. However, some cooks decided to remain at the protest site.
Of the two cooks whose death is being broadcast in news channels, the first cook was a resident of Balod district. She had participated in the protest site on 20 and 21 January, but later returned to her residence. When his health deteriorated there, he was admitted to the government hospital at Dalli Rajhara, where he died during treatment.
The second female cook was a resident of Berla development block of Bemetra district. She was already suffering from serious illness and was admitted to Shankaracharya Hospital in Bhilai. He died during treatment. The Directorate of Public Instruction reiterated that both the deaths have no connection with the protest site or the strike.
The Directorate of Public Instruction said that the state government is completely sensitive towards the health, safety and welfare of all the kitchens. The government is continuously taking necessary decisions and actions in the interest of the kitchens. During the kitchen strike, all the representatives were discussed and provided with legal, financial and health information.
The directorate also said that the health and safety of the cooks present at the strike site was completely monitored. If any cook faced any problem, he was immediately admitted to the hospital. The problems of the kitchens are being resolved immediately by the government and administration, so that there is no inconvenience in the future.
