What to do if you get stuck in a snowstorm: While the snowfall in many cities across the country may look captivating on social media, tourists are facing significant difficulties due to it. In many areas of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir, thick layers of snow on the roads have brought traffic to a standstill, and many tourists are stranded in their cars. Several videos have also surfaced showing vehicles skidding and getting into accidents due to the heavy snow. So, if you are also traveling to a snowy area and get stuck, here are some precautions you should take.

1. Phone Battery
If you are going to or are already in such a place, be sure to inform your friends or family and use your phone sparingly so that you can make calls in case of an emergency.

2. Carry Food and Water
If you are planning to travel to or are already in such a place, keep food and water with you so that even if you get stuck in a traffic jam for hours, you won't go hungry.

3. Stay Inside the Car
Going outside during heavy snowfall or strong winds can be dangerous; this seemingly harmless activity could even prove fatal. Therefore, stay inside the car as much as possible. Even if you go out to enjoy the snowfall, be mindful of your surroundings. The cold wind can make you seriously ill, so stay inside the car as much as possible during such times.

4. Carry Warm Clothes
If you are traveling in snowy conditions, keep warm clothes or a light blanket in your bag so that if you get stuck, you can wrap yourself in the blanket to stay warm and protect yourself from the cold until help arrives.

5. Signal for Help
If you are stuck in your car, tie a red or white cloth to your vehicle and flash your hazard lights periodically at night so that the rescue team can locate you. Also, if you are traveling to such an area, make sure to note down the government helpline numbers.
