Rule Changes From February 1st, 2026: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the country's Union Budget for the financial year 2026-27 on February 1st. February 1st falls on a Sunday. Several major changes will also come into effect on this day, directly impacting your finances. Let's find out what changes are happening on Sunday, February 1st, 2026.
With the start of the new month, several important rules affecting our daily lives are about to change. From February 1st, major changes will occur in areas ranging from FASTag, land registration, banking, and verification systems to LPG prices.
Rule Changes From February 1st: What's changing from February 1st?
Changes in LPG, CNG, and ATF prices
Changes in FASTag KYC verification
Aadhaar verification mandatory for land registration
New tax on pan masala and tobacco products
LPG, CNG, and ATF prices will change on February 1st
LPG cylinder prices are released at the beginning of every month. LPG cylinder rates will also be released on February 1st. On Sunday, February 1st, companies will review the prices of domestic and commercial gas cylinders and release new rates. If LPG cylinders become more expensive, it will directly impact your pocket. Conversely, if prices decrease, you will get cylinders at cheaper rates.
Along with LPG cylinder prices, CNG-PNG and aviation turbine fuel prices may also change on February 1st. Oil companies will release new rates on this day. If ATF prices increase, it will directly affect flight fares. Because if airlines have to pay more for fuel, they may increase ticket prices.
What changes are happening in FASTag?
Changes are also coming to FASTag from February 1st. If your FASTag is already active, you will not need to get KYC done. This means that vehicles that already have FASTag installed will no longer need to undergo regular KYC checks.
Under the new system, banks will complete full vehicle verification before activating FASTag. Vehicle details will first be verified against the official vehicle database. If the information is not found there, verification will be done using the vehicle's registration certificate. This same process will apply to FASTags purchased online to prevent any future problems for users.
Aadhaar Verification Mandatory for Land Registration
From February 1st, Aadhaar verification will be mandatory for land and property registration. Aadhaar authentication will now be required not only for buyers and sellers but also for witnesses, and this will be done on the spot at the time of registration.
New Tax on Pan Masala and Tobacco Products
From February 1st, new GST rates, new cess, and excise duty will be levied on pan masala and tobacco products. The government had passed both bills in Parliament in December. Additional excise duty will be levied on tobacco and related products, while a health and national security cess will be imposed on pan masala. This tax will come into effect from February 1, 2026.
Banks Closed on February 1, 2026
Banks will be closed on February 1, 2026 (Bank Holiday). Even though the Union Budget will be presented on this day, and the stock market will be open, banks will remain closed. This is because February 1, 2026, falls on a Sunday, and banks are closed on Sundays.
