Rohit Shetty is a renowned Bollywood filmmaker. Security was tightened outside the Mumbai residence of the director after unidentified persons opened fire near his building in the Juhu area on Sunday (February 1). According to the ANI report, police officials confirmed that multiple gunshots were fired outside the residential tower. No injuries were reported in the incident, and the filmmaker was said to be inside his home at the time.
Firing outside Rohit Shetty's house
According to police, four rounds were fired from outside the premises. Soon after the incident, personnel from the Juhu police station reached the spot and cordoned off the area. As a precautionary measure, additional police forces were deployed outside the building to prevent any further untoward incidents.
A senior police official told ANI that forensic and ballistic teams were called in to examine the site. Empty bullet shells were recovered from the area outside the building, which have been sent for analysis. The official said that the motive behind the firing is not yet clear and that investigators are examining all possible angles.
Crime Branch teams have also joined the probe, and multiple police units have been formed to identify and trace those involved in the incident. Police are scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding locality to determine the number of assailants and to track their movement before and after the firing. Officials are also trying to ascertain how the attackers arrived at the spot and the route they took while fleeing.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IX) Dikshit Gedam confirmed that the filmmaker was present inside his residence when the shots were fired. He added that the firing appeared to be directed at the building and not at any specific individual in public view. “Zonal police and Crime Branch teams are investigating the matter,” he said, adding that further details would emerge once the probe progresses.
A case has been registered against unidentified assailants under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Police officials said that statements of security personnel and residents of the building are also being recorded as part of the investigation.
More about the incident
The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of high-profile individuals in Mumbai. In 2024, a similar firing incident was reported outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence in Bandra, when two bike-borne assailants opened fire before fleeing the scene.
Rohit Shetty is among the most prominent filmmakers in the Hindi film industry, known for directing commercially successful franchises such as Golmaal and Singham. Police officials said that while there is no immediate threat reported, security arrangements around his residence will remain in place until the investigation reaches a clearer conclusion.
Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
