Preparations are in full swing to celebrate Diwali with great pomp across the country. On this day, Goddess Lakshmi is worshiped at night in every house amidst decorations, fragrance of sweets and lighting of lamps. It is believed that on this auspicious night, Goddess Lakshmi herself visits every house and resides permanently where there is cleanliness, devotion and lighting of lamps. For this reason, there is a tradition of special worship of Mahalakshmi, Lord Ganesha, Kuber Dev and Lord Vishnu on the night of Diwali.
Devotees along with their families worship Lakshmi-Ganesh, sing aarti and pray for prosperity. On the day of Diwali, grand decorations are done in temples across the country, where Goddess Lakshmi is welcomed by lighting lamps throughout the night. At the same time, pundits say that this time the auspicious time of Diwali worship will start after evening and will continue till night, worshiping Goddess Lakshmi at that time brings wealth, glory and good fortune.
Worshiping Goddess Lakshmi properly on the night of Diwali brings prosperity and peace in the house.
Bathing and Purity: Before worshiping on the day of Diwali, take bath by mixing Ganga water in water and wear clean clothes. Purify the place of worship with Ganga water.
Chowk and clothes: Spread a red or yellow cloth on a wooden platform and install the idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha on it.
Panchopachar Puja: Anoint Goddess Lakshmi with Panchamrit. Then offer them rose, lotus, sandalwood, vermilion, turmeric, rice, batasha, sweets, betel nut, cardamom, cloves, lamp, incense, incense sticks, and naivedya.
Meditation and Mantra: During the worship, recite Lakshmi Chalisa or Lakshmi Stotra. Recite the mantra ‘Om Srim Hlim Sri Mahalakshmi Namah’
Hindu ritual of worship: At the end of the puja, perform Aarti of Goddess Lakshmi. During Aarti, light a lamp and rotate it in all four directions.
