Entertainment – Singer and composer Palash Sen has shared a thoughtful response to reports that celebrated vocalist Arijit Singh is stepping away from film playback singing, saying the decision resonates deeply with his own experiences from earlier in his career.

Palash, best known as the voice behind Euphoria, suggested that Arijit’s choice is not sudden or impulsive but rooted in a personal understanding of the film industry’s pressures. He explained that he, too, once stood at a similar crossroads and ultimately chose to move beyond the traditional film space to pursue a more independent artistic journey.

Looking Back at a Defining Career Moment

Palash revisited his early years in the film industry by posting images from the 2002 film Filhaal, which marked the directorial debut of Meghna Gulzar. The movie featured a notable cast including Sanjay Suri, Tabu and Sushmita Sen. Although the film did not perform well at the box office, it remains an important milestone in Palash’s professional life.

Recalling the period, Palash wrote that Filhaal was his first and only significant acting venture, and its commercial failure led to harsh criticism. He said he was quickly dismissed by reviewers and faced ridicule from several industry insiders, including individuals who openly questioned his decision to act in films.

A Project Taken for Passion, Not Fame

According to Palash, his motivation for doing the film had little to do with acting ambitions. He explained that his primary reason was the opportunity to sing a song penned by Gulzar, whom he described as one of the greatest poets and writers of all time. The chance to have the composition created by renowned music director Anu Malik made the experience even more meaningful for him.

He emphasized that he never viewed himself as a competitor within the film industry and was surprised by the resistance he encountered. For Palash, the project was about creative fulfillment rather than professional positioning, and he approached it simply as a chance to enjoy his work and give his best.

Gratitude for Collaborations and Lasting Memories

Despite the challenges, Palash said the film gave him memories he continues to cherish. Working alongside accomplished actors such as Sushmita Sen, Tabu and Sanjay Suri was deeply rewarding, as was being directed by Meghna Gulzar. He noted that while Filhaal struggled during its theatrical run, its later success on television has brought him a sense of satisfaction and gratitude.

Palash described the film as ahead of its time and said he remains proud of being associated with it, regardless of its initial reception.

Drawing Parallels with Arijit Singh’s Decision

Turning his attention to Arijit Singh, Palash said he understands exactly why the singer has chosen to stop accepting new playback assignments. He stated that he had faced similar circumstances years ago and consciously decided to follow a different creative path, one he believes Arijit may now be preparing to explore.

Palash added that recognition in the form of awards never defined his career. He recalled being nominated for several best newcomer honors, including major film awards, but not winning any. Even his band Euphoria, he noted, never received major industry trophies. What mattered more to him was the enduring love and support he received from listeners across the country.

Arijit Singh’s Announcement to Fans

Arijit Singh made his announcement public on January 27, thanking listeners for their unwavering support over the years. In his message, he said he would no longer take on new work as a playback singer and described his time in the industry as a fulfilling and memorable journey.

While Arijit did not outline his future plans, his words reflected gratitude and a sense of closure, marking the end of a significant chapter in contemporary Indian film music.
